The Violet Vestment - Original
The Violet Vestment - Original
Original Available
At the center of this piece stands a figure neither clearly man nor woman, priestlike in bearing, wrapped in a deep violet shawl that pools to the ground the way the gowns did in the paintings before it. A halo of gold hovers close around the head, quiet and certain, the mark of something sacred rather than mortal. Beside this figure, another angel leans in close, lips near the ear, caught mid-whisper, delivering some message we're not meant to fully hear. The whole surface feels worn, as if parts of the image have been rubbed away by centuries of hands, or looted by something less patient than time, patches of paint gone thin and pale like old fresco lifted from a temple wall. It sits as the quietest of the three, less fire and motion, more secret and stillness, as though this is the moment just before the other two paintings begin, an ancient message passed hand to hand, wing to wing, before it ever reaches flame or grove.
