Amethyst - Original

Painted in brush and fingertips, this piece opens with watery, diffuse washes that thicken and gather as the eye moves forward, the paint itself mimicking the fog. At the center, a cave holds its ground, mysterious and half obscured by foliage, its opening ringed by loose grasses and wildflowers grown up wild. Inside, there's a glimpse of amethyst, deep royal purple standing in for the absence of light rather than the presence of stone. The cave reads less like a hollow in rock and more like a portal, some quiet threshold. Two enormous seed plumes rise gold and fuzzy on the left side of the scene, caught mid release, their pollen scattering upward in loose, joyful swirls, flickering into the dewy morning air like something set free. Distant ridge-lines catch the first light of an early sun, warm against the cooler mystery of sky, while long, intentional strokes of grass root the whole scene, blades bending the same direction as the drifting seeds. It's a loose, contemporary take on landscape, one built more from feeling than fact, inviting the eye to rise up and out of the cave's shadow into the brightening sunrise approaching.
