Abiquiú is inspired by the river wetlands of Abiquiú, New Mexico, where old apple trees, planted a hundred years ago, still lean along the riverbanks among tall grasses. The painting captures that lush, hidden world through a gnarled tree with twisting branches, its form both ancient and alive. Beneath it, dense grasses sweep across the foreground in expressive, flowing strokes, creating a layered texture that feels like wind moving through the valley.
