Like many artists, Iris sometimes tests new ideas by painting a small study first. These petite works explore color and composition, often serving as the foundation for much larger paintings. An oil finger painting rises from a ground of near-black — layered indigo and umber kneaded into the canvas — out of which a cluster of tall autumn trees ignite like fire. Thick ridges of cadmium orange catch the light; fingertip crescents press and lift, leaving clustered bursts of flame. Where the paint thins it glows; where it gathers it burns, tipping toward red and flashing neon at the edges like a filament. Against the abyssal lavendar sky, the tree doesn’t simply stand — it pulses, electric-bright, less a season than a signal flare.
